3D Realms Shutdown; Duke Nukem For-Never.
Posted by Zedacon on May 8, 2009
Veteran games developer 3D Realms has closed down because of a lack of funds.
Basically, one of the classic video game developers, 3D Realms, closed down today. Why is this important with wars going on, an odd pandemic, and a dead economy? Well, mostly due to the fact that, even in the terrible economy, the Video Game industry has been one of few that hasn’t fallen, but has continued to rise, so this is either problematic or just long over-due. Its also a striking blow to Gamers everywhere due to the iconic nature of Duke Nukem Forever, their latest work, and 3D Realms. Duke Nukem Forever has been in development roughly 13 years and has been one of the most anticipated titles along-side the Halo sequels, Half-Life 2 and the Episodes, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 (which, along with Duke Nukem Forever, were said to have releases coinciding with the Apocalypse and saying that something would be released when either of these were meant it never would be, though Team Fortress 2 did beat the Apocalypse by being released in November of 2007 with Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode 2). Its sad to see this happen, but hopefully 3D Realms will sell the rights to another company such as iD who is wonderful at game production so it might still see release.
